Cyprus. A “golden-green leaf thrown into the Sea” as described in a poem by Leonidas Malenis put to song by world-famous Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis. The island that the ancient Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite or Venus, chose as her home because of its natural beauties. Like her, Cyprus was born from the foam of the sea. According to geologists, the Troodos mountains – one of the 177 Global UNESCO Geoparks – slowly rose from the sea due to the collision of the African and European tectonic plates, a process that eventually formed our island.

Settled for more than 10 thousand years, Cyprus stands at the historic, cultural and linguistic crossroad between Europe and Asia. Whatever the season, it provides exciting and interesting opportunities, including customs, places and activities that are unique and special to the island. With four million tourist arrivals per year, it is the 40th most popular destination in the world.
